About WTF $1
WTF $1 is a minimalist social experiment. You pay $1. You get literally nothing. That's it.
What is this?
This is an exploration of human behavior, curiosity, and the absurdity of the internet. We're not selling anything. There are no rewards, no NFTs, no memberships. You give $1, and you get... nothing.
Well, not exactly nothing. You get:
- A spot on the Wall of Givers (if you upload a photo)
- A number showing when you joined
- Unlockable achievement badges (5x Giver, 10x Legend, etc.)
- A downloadable Certificate of Nothing
- Access to join or create teams and compete with friends
- Referral links to track who you bring to the experiment
- The satisfaction of being part of something absurdly viral
- A story to tell: "I gave $1 to a website for literally nothing"
Why does this exist?
Remember the Million Dollar Homepage? A student sold pixels for $1 each and made a million dollars. This is the opposite of that.
We're not trying to get rich. We're trying to answer a question: Will people give money for absolutely nothing?
Apparently, yes. You're here, aren't you?
Who runs this?
A small team of developers and designers who thought this would be funny. And it is.
We're real people. We pay for servers, domain names, and PayPal fees. Whatever's left goes into keeping the experiment running or donating to charity (we're considering options).
Is this a scam?
No. A scam would promise you something and not deliver. We promise you nothing, and we deliver exactly that. We're the most honest site on the internet.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Can I get my money back?
A: Payments are non-refundable. You knew what you were getting into (nothing), and PayPal fees can't be recovered. However, if there's a legitimate technical error or you were charged incorrectly, contact us at support@wtf1dollar.com and we'll make it right.
Q: What happens to the money?
A: Server costs, domain renewal, PayPal fees (about 30 cents per transaction), and keeping the lights on. We're exploring charity options for excess funds.
Q: Can I give more than once?
A: Yes! Some people have given 10+ times. We call them legends.
Q: Do I have to upload a photo?
A: Nope. You can stay anonymous. We'll put a placeholder on the wall for you.
Q: Is my payment secure?
A: Yes. We use PayPal for all transactions. We never see your credit card info.
Q: Can I link my social media?
A: Yes! When you upload a photo, you can optionally link your Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, or TikTok.
Q: What are teams?
A: Teams let you compete with friends, coworkers, or your community. Create a team, get a code, share it, and see who can give the most together. Check out the
Teams page.
Q: What are achievement badges?
A: Unlock badges by giving multiple times (5x, 10x, 25x, etc.), being an early adopter, or returning after 30 days. They show on your profile and prove you're committed to wasting money.
Q: Can I become an influencer partner?
A: Yes! We have an influencer program with referral tracking, verified badges, and cross-promotion. Check out the
Influencer Program.
Q: What if I paid but didn't upload a photo?
A: Click "Paid but didn't upload?" on the homepage and enter your PayPal email. We'll let you claim your spot.
Q: Is this art?
A: Maybe? You decide.
Q: Will this actually work?
A: You're reading this, so it already has.
